Greetings,
Merry
Christmas and Happy New Year! I just took a few weeks off of
training except for some daily stretching and some in line
skating. It has been cold here in Florida and I have enjoyed
the break. But I am starting to feel antsy and ready to jump
back into the saddle. You ready for next year? I have
Olympic distance races at St Anthonys and Clairmont, and
Ironman Florida 70.3 on the schedule so far. After 5 years
at IM Arizona I am looking at something different for the
fall but haven't made up my mind yet. Enjoy your time with
you family at this wonderful time of year. I wish you the
best of health and training and racing and prosperity for
2011 and no flats and smooth water. Cheers!

Florida 2010 Race Report

So
how do you go 9:35 for an Ironman at 56 years old? Panama
City, Florida, as an Ironman venue in early November, is
always a crap shoot, tail end of hurricane season and the
beginning of Northern cold fronts sweeping out of Canada.
This year there was the added risk of Gulf oil detritus.
This year was no exception. No hurricane, no oil, just
cold- actually the coldest on record-40 degrees at the
start and 35 F degrees once we turned inland on the bike
through the shadowed pine forests. I HATE, HATE cold
weather racing. Not a fan of jumping on a bike in a wet
clothes. Triathlon is all about heat, sweat, and
dehydration, not hypothermia!!! The warmest part of the
race would be the swim with a water temp of 72 and full
wet suit.
Except for the Pro's that were too
stupid/macho to think they might need more than tri
shorts and a tank top (1/2 the Pro field subsequently
dropped out), we age groupers took the extra minutes to
put on real clothes. I mean would you really head out on
a 40 degree training ride in lycra!!! The time "saved"
by racing solely in a tank top was more than offset by
lost/wasted energy due to the cold. This would be the
Ironman of long transitions!!!

Finally,
an all in one watch ...
|
|

|
|
TIMEX
GLOBAL TRAINER Yes, the new Timex Global Trainer,
is an ALL IN ONE WATCH. It has GPS which shows distance,
speed, pace, altitude, ascend and descent speed, route
map, partial times, automatic pause by distance or by
time, world time and you can mix and match any
combinations of these data in 5 different screen set ups.
Compatible with any gadget with ANT+, such SRM power
meter. It is the only true water resistant watch of its
kind. Your information can be down loaded to your
computer in order to analyze and graph it or even watch
your course in Google maps and, of course, check your
HEART RATE. . . Ten years ago, TIMEX was the pioneer
in this kind of watches, but that model was not very
comfortable to use as you had to attach an accessory to
your arm (GPS receptor). Considering technology available
at that time, it worked fine. However, it is just when
the Global Trainer comes to the market that I can really
say that this is a training gadget which is comfortable,
reliable. I describe it as a gadget because the only
function I almost do not work with is as a watch. Isn't
this ironic?

 I
just wanted to take a few minutes and say "thank
you" and BodyHealth for sponsoring me as an athlete
the last few years. As an athlete I have come to really
believe in the product as I use it fairly religiously
myself. I say fairly because every once in a while I will
get lazy and think I don't need to take it. The result is
always some part of my body reminds me that I really do
seem to need this, and so I jump back on the "DO NOT
FORGET WAGON"!!
As a coach I have also seen
the results with my athletes, especially in terms of
recovery. I manage to get every one of my athletes hooked
on it, and fellow cyclists also. For myself, at age 57 I
find that my recovery is not what it was ten years ago -
but with MAP I have no problem recovering from everyday
Ironman training.

OLD
NEWS to some and very GOOD NEWS to all
|
|
|
|
In
March 2004 I wrote an article in Triathlete Magazine
about protein recovery. That article prompted
thousands of people to call our office and buy the
product. Back then we called the product BioBuilde. That
name is no longer used, but has been replaced with the
name MAP. Here is that article again for you to see. The
product is still delivering what it used to and is the
best protein/amino acid supplement by far on the market.
If you haven't tried it, you are missing out. It will
improve your health and your performance.
Many
athletes know that protein is an important element to the
endurance athlete's recovery and health in warding off
illness. But getting the maximum bang out of your protein
source is the trick. A new product on the market suggests
it does just that.
As a nutritionally oriented
medical doctor, my goal is to restore or maintain optimum
health for every person I see using natural remedies. A
person in peak health can enjoy the competition of racing
and training and can keep their youthful performance far
beyond what most believe is possible. Often, I use my own
body for testing. At 55, I'm not as fast as I used to be,
but I am as intent on improving my performance as ever. I
keep looking for things that make me feel better, give me
better energy, faster recovery and more strength that I
can pass along to others.
