Master Amino Acid Pattern (MAP) Winner's Circle Sandy Senoski
Sandy Senoski, Age group winner at Oliver Half Iron.
I have been participating in triathlons for seven years. I started with sprint and Olympic distance races and progressed to ironman. I have completed 3 ironman races.
I was training for IMC in 2004 when I tore my ACL. I had reconstructive knee surgery in April 2004. Six months later, I was ready to start training again; this time for IMWA. I only had 3 months to get ready and started using MAP. I had heard about the product and its claims to promote healing and faster recovery. I was sceptical but willing to try anything to help speed my return to sport. My surgeon had told me there was no way I'd be ready for Ironman by November and that I wouldn't be able to even start running for 6 months. I started using MAP about 5 months into my rehab; around the same time I started a gentle walk/run program. Six weeks later, I was running for an hour and both swimming and cycling were part of my rehab. Six and a half months later, at the final appointment with my surgeon, he shook my hand and congratulated me. He told me he had never had a patient recover as quickly from that kind of surgery. I had worked hard at my phsyio and rehab and used MAP. I was hooked on MAP.
Unfortunately, 12 days before IMWA race, I fractured my fibula. I was devastated. And to make things worse, I had complications and the fracture wouldn't heal. For 5 months there was no calcification or union of the bone. The doctor said it was a delayed union and after 6 months, it would be considered a non-union. I was told the area had filled in with fibrous tissue but I could start a gentle walk/run program as long as there wasn't too much discomfort.
I was lacking motivation and needed another goal so I signed up for the Oliver Half Iron. I had 3 months to get ready and I resumed taking MAP. I ramped up my training and got serious about a nutrition plan for recovery and performance. After reading more about MAP, I realized how important protein was for optimal health and performance. I doubled the amount of protein in my diet and took my MAP. Right away, I noticed I had more energy which meant better workouts and I was able to recover well after hard workouts. I am leaner and have more muscle definition than I had in my twenties. Plus, when I went for the six month xray of my fracture, it had started to show signs of calcification! I felt stronger and more fit that ever before! I believe MAP may have been the catalyst for the calcification.
When I started competing in triathlons, I was a solid middle of the pack age grouper. After a couple of years, I was finishing in the top 25 percent of my age group. The last race I completed before my injuries was the Black Diamond Half Iron in September 2003. Finally, after 18 months, I have been able to return to racing. I just completed the Oliver Half Iron in June 2005 and for the first time ever, I won my age group!
Despite my injuries and the fact that I'm getting older (apparently I should be slowing down and my PB's should be behind me) I am training harder and stronger and racing faster than ever. The muscle soreness and the aches I felt post-race or post-hard work out are much lesser in intesity and duration. I am able to return to training much faster.
