In our view, the clinical definition of constipation is accompanied by one of more of the following symptoms:
- straining during bowel movements
- lumpy or hard stool
- sensation of incomplete evacuation
- sensation of anorectal
blockage/obstruction
- fewer than one bowel movement per day
-bloated abdomen
A constipated person can be poisoned by their own waste, a state known as autointoxication. Even short-term constipation is not good.
Indigestion, gas, bloating, allergies and hay fever, arthritis, and even colon cancer may be signs of autointoxication caused by constipation.
Colon cancer is a major concern as it is second only to lung cancer in causing cancer death in the U.S. In 2005, more than 141,000 Americans were diagnosed with colon cancer.
Your health and energy depend on moving out waste. Bowel movements should ideally occur at least twice a day. Anything less may leave toxic waste in the body.
What causes constipation?
To understand constipation, it helps to know how the colon (large intestine) works. As food moves through the colon, it absorbs water while forming waste products, or stool. Muscle contractions in the colon push the stool toward the rectum. By the time stool reaches the rectum, it is solid because most of the water has been absorbed.
The hard and dry stools of constipation occur when the colon absorbs too much water or if the colon's muscle contractions are slow or sluggish, causing the stool to move through the colon too slowly.
Why is constipation a problem?
Isn't it normal to go only every couple of days?
No it's not. If body waste isn't removed within every 12-18 hours it can cause the colon wall to be inflamed (colitis) and eventually break down and form ruptured pouches in the intestinal wall that can get infected (diverticulitis). It has been reported from autopsy studies that 30% of all adults have diverticular disease with over 50% of them being over 40 years old.
Also, when the toxins remain in the colon for more than 24 hours, these toxins can re- enter the colon cells and they can become overloaded. This causes them to act sluggish or sick. If this continues too long, these toxins can go deeper into the cells to the internal DNA and damage it. This can start in motion the beginning of colon cancer.
Where does all the ‘bad stuff' go if it's not being eliminated?
When the toxin level in the colon rises, these toxins can back-up into the bloodstream and into the liver. This means that the liver must handle them a second time and this leads to liver overload. When the liver is overloaded it can't handle the new toxins coming in because it has too much to do. These toxics further back up into the blood stream.
The increased blood levels of impurities and toxin spillage goes from the blood into other organs like the brain, heart, skin and kidney. At this point systemic symptoms can really become significant such as: generalized fatigue, bad breath, foul body odor, depression, poor sleep, and moodiness.
Essentially, each of our cells now get back the waste that they have already dumped. This is autointoxication . If you have low energy, brain fog, arthritis, autoimmune disease, high blood pressure, this may be the underlying cause.
