Master Amino Acid Pattern (MAP) Testimonial
By CPT Edward L. Arntson III
I have been in the Army for 5 years and truly love what I do. I am an Infantry Officer and have served as a Platoon Leader during Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) and a company commander during Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). After being wounded in the forearm (sniper shot that destroyed my ulna) during OIF, I returned to my home station of Fort Richardson , Alaska where I continue to serve while I recover.
Fitness has always been a large part of my life and I enjoy staying in great physical condition. I played high school football, basketball, and ran track. I played 2 years of Division III college basketball at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN and then served as a student assistant for my final two years. I love sports and still follow them closely. I have competed in several triathlons, one Half-Ironman triathlon, two half-marathons, and one marathon (June 2006).
After finishing US Army Ranger School in the summer of 2003, my body was extremely broken down and physically weak, at least compared to its ‘before' state. As I began to regain my fitness, I found out that I would deploy with my first unit to Afghanistan . While I was still able to continue to work on my fitness overseas, I was unable to regain the level of fitness I had before attending Ranger school.
In the spring of 2004 while still serving in Afghanistan , our operational requirements became steadier and I was able to dedicate some solid time to working on my overall fitness. As I began to train again, I read an advertisement in Tri athlete magazine about MAP. I was intrigued and investigated further on the internet before ordering my first installment.
When I began using MAP, I was doing a 10k training program and doing upper body strength training 4-5 days per week. Immediately after beginning my use of MAP, I noticed the impacts right away. My recovery time decreased dramatically and I was able to train harder each day out because of MAP. Despite doing cardiovascular training several days per week that took me to my lactate threshold, I never experienced lower body soreness or pain. Prior to using MAP, I routinely would experience pain and soreness in my legs after hard interval or hill workouts. I also made the largest upper body strength gains of my life while using MAP. I significantly increased the number of pushups, pull-ups and sit-ups I could do while using MAP. MAP helped me break through several training barriers that I thought would take years to break.
I continue to use MAP in cycles today. I used it in preparation for my marathon last summer and saw amazing results with my recovery from long runs and difficult interval workouts. There were days when, after doing a 17 or 18 mile training run and using MAP post-run, I could have gone out the next day to max the Army Physical Fitness Test. I am currently using MAP to assist with my recovery from the gunshot wound I suffered to my right forearm.
