Congratulations to Cheri G on her new Ironman book!

Become An Ironman: An Amatuers Guide to Participating in the World's Toughest Endurance Event by Cherie Gruenfeld.   Cherie did her first Ironman at age 48 and has gone on to become a 7 time IM Hawaii Age Group World Champion and she is the first woman over age 55 to break 12 hours in Kona.

The book takes you from her first Hawaii Ironman experience, standing in the water in Kona waiting for the cannon sound, to her triumphant finishes as a world champion. In this book she has captured the energy and excitement of being an Ironman Triathlete and woven this into a practical manual of how to get started, getting a coach, setting up a race calendar, and techniques for improving the speed of your SBR. The book is filled with great quotes and fantastic race photos that give the reader the experience of the race itself and would inspire even the most ardent couch potato to consider being a triathlete.

Cherie has been a part of our Team MAP for the last three years and I have come to know and greatly admire her. She is a multidimensional dynamo in both her personal and triathlon life and dedicates considerable time to helping under privileged children to become athletes.

There is a quote at the beginning of the book that I find most inspiring and apropos to her viewpoints. It's from John Greenleaf Whittier and says:

For of all sad words of tongue or pen

The saddest are these: “It might have been.”

To which Cherie retorts: “But the one thing I've never experienced is a Triathlete, regardless of his or her personal situation, saying “I wish I hadn't done it.”
