250 MILES BIKE RIDE IN EXTREME CONDITIONS
by Luis Alvarez
Winner at Ironman
Honolulu -world Record Holder - Only man to complete every Ironman race venue in the world
Last Friday I was part of the organization as well as a participant of a nice little bike ride from Mexico City to Acapulco. You would probably know that Acapulco is a port in the Pacific Ocean, in the south of Mexico, and one of the most famous and popular places for vacations. It has beautiful beaches and a great night life. We were 60 mad men and women that started with the desire of watching the sea from a bike...
Here are the details of the ride:
We began at 4:00 a.m. and rode 250 miles in 13 hours. The temperature varied from 32 degrees F to 113 degrees F. We cycled over a 10,200 foot peak and had an accumulated 13,500 feet of climbing! The calorie burn per person was over 9000 calories and 4 quarts of fluid. Average weight loss the the day was 8 pounds.
I was on my feet again the very next day because I am a regular Master Amino Acid Pattern (MAP) user and took it during the ride (10 before , 5 every 4 hours, 10 after the ride, 10 just before going to bed). I hydrated very well and I kept a low heart rate throughout the journey. The morning after my resting heart rate was 45 bpm. I was fully recovered, so, once again thank you BioBuild!!! Thanks to my Timex trail runner I was able to give you some of these numbers. It’s a great tool for tracking terrain and performance.
