Peter Reid's Triathlon Camp
D.I. Minkoff M.D. gave a lecture at Peter's Triathlon camp in Tucson a couple of weeks ago. The talk was How to Optimize Your Performance using Protein Therapy. In addition to talking about how endurance athletes can meet their protein requirements, we discussed the need for antioxidants with heavy training. I suggested that each serious athlete should do a blood profile early in the year to see if any deficiencies exist. There are laboratory tests that can be done to see if your antioxidant levels are where they should be to protect you from the oxidative stress of hard training. Looking at other things like vitamin levels, essential fatty acid levels and minerals is also important.
