Winner at
Soak Up The Sun Triathlon
(Male 50-54 Age Group Winner)
In December of 2006 one of my co-workers was feeling the years creeping up on him as he was about to hit his mid-3Os, and said he wanted to do a triathlon as a New Year's resolution. I was turning 50 the next year and had gained quite a few pounds after retiring from the Air Force, so I said I'd do a triathlon with him.Two years and 13 triathlons later - and 15 pounds lighter - I'm completely hooked!
Before the 2009 season I decided my training and nutrition plan needed more focus and discipline, and adding MAP has proved to be the key ingredient.
At my age and with a busy job and family life it was impossible to spend a lot of time pounding out long hard workouts. I devised a plan that began each weekday with a 4:45 a.m. wake-up call to hit the pool, or do some biking or spinning (in the winter), or hit the road for running, all mixed in with weights, stretching, and a little yoga for good measure. Frequency was the goal, intensity was varied, and a good dose of supplemental nutrition was required as well.
I'm completely convinced that MAP helped me to power through and recover quickly from each and every one of my workouts, and was instrumental in the success of my plan - as evidenced by winning my age group in the first race of the 2009 season. I trust my training plan and trust MAP - implicitly - and I'm really looking forward to more podium finishes this season.
