| Are cheap supplements worth the money? |
 |
Walk down the “health food aisle” of any large
chain grocery store, or search the web for brands of
supplements and you will see and read information
that claims to raise the dead and make supermen of
the living. But more importantly as you look at the
labels and compare products, the cheap ones seem
to have the same ingredients as the more expensive
ones. Is there a difference?
Yes there is. Quality does count. And with a quality
product the body will actually respond and you will
be able to feel the difference. Since the dietary
supplement industry is not policed by the FDA...

| Athletic Performance and Total Body Toxic Load |
 |
Engaging in athletic activities puts a high
demand on your body to go faster, jump higher, and
lift more. Two very important factors must be
considered so that your genetic endowment can be
maximized:
1. Nutrition is the most important factor. Adequate
nutrients must be available to build tissues and
organs as well as to provide fuel for energy.
2. Toxic influences in the environment must also be
constantly removed so the body's tissues are not
contaminated by heavy metals and chemicals. These
factors actually block enzymes needed for the body
to make energy and protein. When the body is under
toxic stress, it will not perform or recover properly.
Fatigue, lack of energy, inability to recovery, or
injury result.

| Feeling tired? Try this! |
 |
Did you know that probiotics improve immune
function? At one time or another many of us have
suffered from overtraining and have developed
fatigue that did not resolve in a day or two. What
most people don’t realize is that an imbalance in the
bacteria in the intestine may be implicated in this and
what is most exciting is that
taking probiotics (good bacteria) can often repair and
resolve it.

| The fountain of youth is measured in muscle. Are you keeping yours? |
 |
One of the unfortunate effects of aging is loss
of muscle. Are your biceps and quads what they
used to be? After 50 years of age the average
person loses 1-2% of his/her muscle each year. Loss
of muscle means less ability to move, easier falls,
slower times. Also unfortunately, fat usually
increases with age, so we end up with less strength
and greater weight. Fat produces hormones that
increase estrogen in both men and women, and
causes fat deposits in the breast and hips. The
increased fat also produces hormones that increase
inflammation and may lead to heart disease,
arthritis, diabetes and cancer.

Discovery Channel's Michael Barry is Back in the Peloton! |
|
|
|
From MAP Team Member: Discovery Team Pro
Cyclist Michael Barry.
After several months away from the races I am now
back in the peloton. I had crashed the first weekend
in April at the Tour of Flanders classic and fractured
three vertebrae. After two months of recuperation, I
started racing in June at the Dauphine Libere: a week
long race in the French Alps that serves as a test for
all the riders getting ready to battle in the Tour de
France in July. The stages, and competition, are
similar to the Tour but on a smaller scale.
Over the last few months my workloads have
increased and I have been recovering and getting
stronger with each ride. With daily use, I feel
MAP has helped me improve my overall fitness
and now I am performing at the same level I was at
before I crashed. I am also now leaner and stronger
and my climbing abilities have improved as a result.
