Kona Report Alex MacDonald
Here is a brief race report. As you may know, it went well, although not exactly the race I wanted or know I am capable of. I encountered a lot of adversity and pushed through to the finish line, after all it is the superbowl of triathlon and quitting is not my style, I had to finish! After a disappointing swim where, aside from some rookie mistakes, I lost my timing chip and had to get a new one in T1. Then I had some mechanical issues with my bike which required a few stops along the course and some help from tech support.
Also the wind made the bike leg very tough this year.
I seriously considered quitting several times, however, stayed mentally strong and ran a pretty good marathon of 3:02 to move myself into the top 40. All in all it was a great day despite the fact that it was by far the hardest race I have ever done. I am very proud that I managed to stay positive in the face of adversity, much of which was beyond my control, and made it to the finish line as the 38th pro in a time of 9:10. If you want all the gorey details, my full race report is on my blog at www.alexmmtri.com/blog .
At any rate, thank you again for all your support it would not be possible to even try to race at this level without. I really think that MAP makes a big difference in my training and recovery.
Thanks,
Alex M McDonald, MD
