My first Sprint Triathlon in 3 years
Well, the end of May saw me complete my first sprint triathlon in 3 years.
It was awesome. Since moving to Alaska in the fall of 2005, I did not complete a triathlon, much to my dismay. ( Alaska doesn't provide the greatest environment for triathlons) At our unit Banner Day on 30 May, however, I was able to complete a sprint triathlon consisting of a 500m swim, 13 mile bike (first time I have ridden a bike in 3 years), and 5k run.
I finished in 72 minutes, 2nd in my wave and somewhere around 6th or 7th overall. I was happy with my performance, but after a brief stint on the bike, soon recalled that I need to actually train on the bike to be good on it. The swim and run were no issue as I train those events regularly, and I felt great on both portions.
Our team finished second overall (it was a team competition with the lowest overall average time), which my company, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, a few points for the Banner Day competition. Despite the intensity of the race and heat that morning...with MAP, I had no issues doing a light workout the next day.
While training time has been limited recently because a large exercise that my unit conducted here at Hunter Army Airfield, I have been able to do some maintenance workouts this week as we recover, and, as always, my workouts are never ”wasted” with MAP. I can recover quickly and continue to press forward towards regaining a bit of lost fitness over a two week period.
July should bring some great training, and hopefully an Olympic distance triathlon, but training schedule will drive that train.
Thanks again MAP!
Also, my aunt in North Dakota who recently had gastric bypass surgery is using MAP to help her get her daily protein and loves it. She has seen great results in overall fitness and health as she begins her new life at over 100 lbs. lighter than she was at Christmas. Way to go Aunt Stephanie!
Take care.
