| Q and A with Dave Scott |
 |
From Carl in NYC: During the off season my
strength workouts show improved strength and I
make gains. Now with a lot of training for an upcoming
Ironman I can barely keep on an even keel. For
example 6 months ago I could do 12 pull ups and was
getting stronger. Now with lots of SBR I can only do 8
pulls up and with a lot of difficulty. I feel like maybe I
should give up the strength training? What is your
suggestion?
Your ability to perform heavier multi-joint exercises
during the competitive season will quite often drop off
as your aerobic/mileage emphasis increases. There
is a fine line between maintaining a higher power
output and increasing your economy at Ironman
workloads.

| MAP Team Member Luis Alvarez does it again . . . |
 |
I just completed IM Wisconsin. This is my 4th
IRONMAN of this year, and only two weeks after IM
Louisville. It was the second time this year I have
qualified for the World Championship in Kona. And I
broke my PR by 21 minutes! Without MAP I would
not have been able to recover and accomplish this. I
placed 6th place within my age group and a 103
overall within 2,400 participants, including pro's.
As soon as I finished IM Louisville, I started taking 10
pills every day during the next 15 days. As a result, my
muscles recovered at 100% , and I was completely
ready for Wisconsin.

My most recent win (F55-59) at FrimMan Half
Ironman, I won by over an hour. I took 8 MAP
before the race (per usual), then 8 as I started on the
run. WOW- at 9 miles, my run had really kicked in.
Thanks to MAP. Took 8 more after the race and
felt perfect for another hard training week! Mary

| Listening to your body |
 |
By Team Member, Laura Swann I am able to
listen to body and tell when I've gone
too far. Maturity and experience has taught me that I
cannot push myself to train hard every single day. My
mind may want to do this but this is a sure way to get
injured. I see so many talented runners go through
this cycle of being as they would like to
think, "invincible", meaning, they tear their bodies up
day in and day out and do not eat the right foods all
while believing that an injury is just not going to
happen to them because they're "different". When you
get right down to it, though, it is stupidity. We are all
human, right? Personally, I would rather be enjoying
the races I enter than be sidelined, limping, and
miserable. To me, it is best to feel invincible during a
race, instead. Currently, I train on my own schedule so
I am able to monitor how hard I should exert myself in
between hard days. This allows my muscles to
recover and grow at the same time. I take my
MAP every single day because to me, it is a
necessity for making it to the end of the season.

PRODUCT REVIEW from Bicycle.net |
|
|
|
As cyclists we are always looking for that competitive
edge that will help us improve our performance that
last 10%. We focus on our training, equipment, diet,
sleep, and recovery. It's this last category (recovery)
that MAP helps the cyclist improve.
I was sent a bottle of MAP to try, and like most of
the products that end up on my office door I am a
skeptic at heart. I have tried a many different products
with minimal improvement if any at all. In fact most
supplement products are worthless, and just a huge
waste of money. So when I got the MAP I was not
holding out much hope that it would have any
beneficial effect on my cycling performance.
I was told to take the 5 to 10 MAP tablets before
any hard workout or race. After just a few weeks the
results were impressive, and left zero doubt that this
product works. And works well, really well. I had two
different test in mind, the first being a 5 mile time trial
hill climb that averages 7%, with a really hard section
at the top at 12%. The second test was a sprint
triathlon that I had done the year before so I had a very
reliable way to review my results.
Test #1: My best time up to this point on the Hill Climb
Time Trial (HCTT) was a very disappointing 25
minutes and 25 seconds. After taking the
MAP . . .
