Greetings,
Thanks to all of you who have been coming up to us
at events. We love meeting with you and hearing
about your successes. Escape from Alcatraz was a
blast. Ironman Idaho is just a few weeks away. Good
luck and we'll see you there.

Last year, I was an orthopedist's dream patient.
I had sciatica, plantar fascitis, tendonitis, and ITB
syndrome. Despite stretching, lifting, and trying
to "build into" an Ironman training program, I still was
nagged by these injuries. I did my homework and
tried all of the expert advice, but nothing seemed to
work.
Last October, I raced at the World Championships
with significant anti-inflammatories and still had to
grit and bear it. After Kona, I read about MAP
and figured that since I tried everything else, why
not one
more?
Through the winter, I reestablished my base and
started training with MAP. I gradually increased
my dosage to the recommended levels.
I'm happy to say that I'm well into the season and
racing injury free! This spring I won the US Half
Marathon and medalled at both St. Anthony's and the
Florida Half Ironman. More importantly, I'm enjoying
training and racing for the first time in 2 years. --

I have been taking BB for two months and, at 47
years young, I have noticed a dramatic improvement
in strength, endurance and recovery... so I just
ordered 3 additional months!
Thanks, Steve

MAP is a great product. It has really helped
me to recover from my hard workouts. Racing at a
professional level in international competition like the
Tour de France places extreme demands on one's
body. To try to compete without attention to the
best nutrition would be impossible. I take MAP
because it helps to preserve my muscle strength and
recovery, my immune system, and my energy. I can
recommend it highly. -- George Hincapie 6X Tour de

| Questions For The Dr. |
 |
|
Q. What about taking MAP during a
workout?
A. I usually don't take it during workouts.
Take it before and after if the workout is longer than
2 hours. Then a third dose 6 hours later if it's a
really big day. I do take MAP during a long race.
For an Ironman, take 10 before, 5 at the bike
turnaround, 5 at the end of the bike, and 5 at the
midrun point. Then take 10 at the end.
Q. Is MAP recommended for uses such
as weight lifting and yoga? I do these during my
off-season.
A. MAP provides optimum protein
nutrition. Your body needs protein every day -- even
more when stressed or when you're exercising. You
can adjust the dosage based on that.
Q. From your previous email you mentioned
the higher levels of antioxidants. We drink a cup of
green tea daily--does this count or should I simply
increase my levels?
A. The tea counts, but personally I think at
least a multivitamin with extra antioxidants is good.
Recently I tested my antioxidant blood levels after a
2 ˝ hour workout, and they were only half the level
considered normal. I feel that with high levels of
training, more antioxidants are needed to protect the
body from the free radical damage that can occur.
There is an excellent product for this from
Orthomolecular Products called Oxitrol. It is a mix of
antioxidants and works very well. On easy days, two
are enough. On hard days, I may take two capsules
three times.
Oxitrol's ingredients include: Vitamin A 15,000 IU
(from Betatene® -- Natural Mixed Carotenoids),
Vitamin C 500 mg, Vitamin E 400 IU (as d-Alpha
Tocopherol Succinate), Selenium (as Amino Acid
Complex) 50 mcg, N-Acetyl Cysteine USP 200 mg,
Quercetin 100 mg, Lipoic Acid 100 mg, ActiVin®
(Grape Seed Extract) 75 mg, and CoQ-10 50 mg.

Athletic Performance and Total Body Toxic Load |
|
|
|
Athletes put high demands on their bodies to go
faster, jump higher, and lift more. Two very important
factors must be considered so that their genetic
endowment can be maximized:
1. Nutrition is the most important factor.
Adequate nutrients must be available to build tissues
and organs as well as to provide fuel for energy.
2. Toxic influences in the environment must
also be constantly removed so the body's tissues are
not contaminated by heavy metals and chemicals.
These factors actually block enzymes needed for the
body to make energy and protein. When the body is
under toxic stress, it will not perform or recover
properly. Fatigue, lack of energy, inability to
recovery, or injury result.
By and large the sports nutritional industry has only
concentrated on nutrition while toxic influences have
been virtually ignored. Our experience has shown us
that attention to both guarantees the best
performance.
Thus, we must address the toxic buildup issue with
as much attention as we do protein, carbohydrate,
vitamin, and mineral metabolism. This would include
attention to pure water and good bowel elimination,
but also ways to nutritionally help the body remove
these environmental toxins.
For this reason, we are introducing the dietary
supplement BODY DETOX, which can be used by
athletes to help remove environmental metals and
chemicals from their bodies, thus maintaining their
optimum level of performance and protecting their
future health.
BODY DETOX can help everyone to gradually
unburden their toxic load so they can remain at the
top of their game. For details on Body Detox, see
