Greetings,

Greetings! Lots of racing these days. We are up at Ironman Coeur D'Alene. What a gorgeous race venue -- and hot! This week we are announcing a new program that we are very excited about. We are giving a free bottle of MAP to any athlete who gets first place in his or her age group in any sanctioned triathlon, biathlon or running race. See details below. Hope you're having a fun summer. Safe training. -- D.I. Minkoff, M.D.

  • "Toxins? Affect me? Are you kidding?": Training for the Ironman Triathlon

This last week at Coeur d'Alene's Ironman Triathlon, I'm not sure how many competitors were aware, while stroking away at the arduous 2.4 mile swim, that on the bottom of Lake Coeur d'Alene sit 70 million tons of toxic sediments left over from intensive mining in the lake's area over the last 100 years.

Historically, mining companies in Idaho's Silver Valley would dump their lead, cadmium, and arsenic wastes into the most convenient places possible -- into the air, rivers, lakes, and other areas where the tailings would seem to "wash away." Rains and floods also helped push these mining wastes down into the Coeur d'Alene River Basin.

MAP Changes "Orthopedist's Dream Patient" into Ironman Qualifier

Last year, I was an orthopedist's dream patient. I had sciatica, plantar fascitis, tendonitis, and ITB syndrome. Despite stretching, lifting, and trying to "build into" an Ironman training program, I still was nagged by these injuries. I did my homework and tried all of the expert advice, but nothing seemed to work.

Last October, I raced at the World Championships with significant anti-inflammatories and still had to grit and bear it. After Kona, I read about MAP and figured that since I tried everything else, why not one more?

    New MAP Game

Anyone currently on MAP is eligible to play. Win your age group in a sanctioned Triathlon, Duathlon, or 5K, 10K, half marathon or marathon and win a free bottle of MAP. Please send us a picture of you and verification of your place and purchase of MAP.

Have fun and good luck. -- D.I. Minkoff, M.D.

    MAP: Not only for Triathletes

I'm still taking the MAP and loving it. I've been riding a lot and even racing. I won the Vet Pro (over 30) and the + 40 A classes two weeks ago at a District 5 Springs Series. I'm racing this Friday and Saturday at Budd's Creek and then staying to watch the National on Sunday. If I keep getting stronger and faster I just may try a real National again. Hell, I only turned 50 two weeks ago. So I feel that I still have some good years left in me.

Thank You. -- Gary Semics, Gary Semics MX School Inc.

    Fire Chief Still Fired Up!

So far, so good. Three members of our racing team (3 firefighters) just returned from the California Police and Fire Games in Stockton, California. The three of us took 9 medals during four days of racing. We won two gold, three silver, and four bronze medals! At least one of us medalled in every event, and most times several of us did.

The events consisted of a 25 mile crit race, 10 mile time trial, 1000 meter sprints, and 32 mile road race. Two of us were using MAP both before and after the races (ten tabs before and after). The other guy used some only after the races and I'm not sure of the dose. Myself and the other guy using the full doses definitely felt excellent during the events.

Neither one of us had any soreness, discomfort or tiredness in our legs. Every day we felt excellent and gave 100% efforts. After four days of racing we thought we'd feel more tired but we have felt great. I now have more guys trying it and some definite guys continuing to use the product. I am definitely enjoying the benefits of the product. -- Scott Blanton, Captain Vancouver Fire Department
