| Q and A with Dave Scott |

From Jim in Ann Arbor :
Do you suggest training through an injury? A lot of
days my calves are sore and I am wondering if I
should run or not. Usually if I take a few days off they
are still sore. Should I wait longer until its all gone?
From Dave Scott: "Soreness" does not
necessarily denote that you have an injury.

My name is Brooke Davison, and I live in Boulder,
Colorado. I train with Dave Scott.
I am a mother of 3, finishing up my first official season
in triathlon. I plan on turning pro immediately following
Clearwater, as I have been so fortunate to have a
wonderful season. That all said, Dave turned me onto
your product just about a year ago, when I was finding
myself catching every bug brought home by each of
my children.

"You Mean I might not be getting enough protein?" |
|
|
|
Probably one of the most misunderstood aspects of
nutrition is protein. Here is a simple explanation.
Our vital tissues are made of protein. This includes
bones, muscles, organs, enzymes, many hormones,
immune proteins and neurotransmitters. In the course
of life these structures break down and need to be
repaired or rebuillt.
When our intake of quality protein is less than our
body needs, these tissues will not be repaired, and
under perform.
This leads to injury, illness, mood changes, and lack
of training effect
.
What is a quality protein?
Here is the explanation.
When you eat what is considered a protein food (like
meat, fish, dairy, nuts or soy) one of two things
happens: a) either the body uses that protein to make
our own body proteins OR b) the body uses that
protein for energy and does not make protein out of it.
Using this principle, nutritionists measure the quality
of a protein by this equation:
