    Enjoy the Company of Others

As triathletes, we're used to being alone. I mean we compete in an individual sport, so we don't need another athlete to be with us during a training session. Often times it's easier to just go off on our bike to ride some intervals or run a tempo set by ourselves.

MAP Success from a Ballet Dancer

I am a dancer. My main area of training is Ballet, although these days dancers are required to do Contemporary, Jazz, Broadway, or whatever if you want to work.

The other thing is, I am also 59 years old. Technically, I should have retired a long time ago....therefore, I cross-train for dance heavily.

    Training and Nutrition

For triathletes looking for that extra edge in your racing and training, look no further than your daily nutritional intake. We all want that extra something - that extra edge that will allow us to go beyond what our minds and bodies tell us we are capable.

How many of you spend countless dollars of your hard earned income on supplements that are advertised to accomplish miraculous things and yet sit down to eat burgers, fries and a soft drink?

In Favor of the Big Brick by Cherie Gruenfeld 8 Time Age Group Hawaii IM World Champion

In the past few years, some folks who are training for an Ironman have replaced the long brick with a long ride followed by a run of around an hour rather than a longer run. A quality sixty minute run off a long bike ride should serve the purpose of stressing the body to a point that results in muscle adaptation and, because the shorter run doesn't beat you up too badly, it usually doesn't require serious recovery time. This is a good thing because many triathletes don't do recovery well.

However, experience with my own training and with those I coach is that there is benefit to brick workouts that include both a long bike and a run of longer than an hour. Several things have led me to this conclusion:

    •  Have you ever tried telling a newby that his Ironman event will be the first time he'll run longer than an hour off the bike? If you look at his face closely, you can easily read his mind: What - is she kidding me? Doesn't she get that my IM marathon is going to be several hours longer than that?
