| How Much MAP Do I Need? |

Dear Dr. Minkoff,
Hi. I have begun counting how many grams of protein I
eat each day. How do I figure my MAP into that
equation? If I understand correctly most or all of my
protein should be from meat/eggs.
Whey, soy, "protein bars" or "shakes" are not as good.
Are these other sources a waste of $ and calories?
Should I stick w/ meat/fish/poultry/eggs & MAP?

Dear J, We have a calculator coming to the site
soon to help people do this. It's not that whey, soy,
protein bars and shakes are bad, it's just that as
protein sources, the quality is low. If you want other
calories for energy or non protein nutrients, they're
fine. But for protein here is the basic idea of how to
calculate it.

I did Vineman 70.3 last weekend. I won and set a
new course record. The most gratifying thing is that I
did it in 5:43 - a min. faster than
2008 and it was considerably hotter this year. At my
age (65), to race faster than a year ago I consider to
be a major success!

As with the rest of the world, Mexico is
also is being hit by the economic crisis. As some of
you may know, I am in the auto industry and it has
been very intense, even to the point of critical.
I think many of us have experienced
the need to save our jobs, businesses and family
income, and this has taken priority over exercising,
training and competition. Unfortunately, I have found
myself saddle sore from being tied to my office chair
instead of my bike seat.
