I recently completed a massive training week in preparation for Kona. I anchored the week in Iowa while I did the RAGBRAI - The Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa. RAGBRAI is a cycling spectacle - 20,000 people eating, drinking, and cycling across over 400 miles of rural Iowa. However, I put a little twist on RAGBRAI by starting the days' rides at first light and hammering the open roads, ratcheting up the mileage, and adding runs whenever my legs were up to the challenge. I totaled 800 cycling miles and 50 miles of running over 6 days. RAGBRAI is awesome and I don't have enough space to do it justice in this article, so look for a future article on how to make RABRAI an amazing Ironman training week. However, RAGBRAI is not designed to be a bike race or even a training hammer fest, so read the subsequent article before contorting RAGBRAI to be such an adventure.

Is Constipation A Threat To Your Life?

If you have fewer than two bowel movements a day, you can be described as 'constipated' and your body may be filling with toxic debris.

A constipated person can be poisoned by their own waste, a state known as autointoxication. Even short- term constipation is not good.

Indigestion, gas, bloating, allergies and hay fever, arthritis, and even colon cancer may be signs of autointoxication caused by constipation.

Colon cancer is a major concern as it is second only to lung cancer in causing cancer death in the U.S.

    What's The Answer?

Dr. David Minkoff will be hosting a free teleconference addressing this critical condition and describing what you can do about it.

    Date: Thursday, September 17, 2009.

    Bring It!

    By Jukka Valkonen, R.N., P.H.N

If printed words have "tone" and can upset the reader, then I'll be preemptive and apologize now - a little. As humans evolved so did our sports. Through the millennia participating in sports as well as observing and studying them, has been part of every culture on the planet. Athletes that have worthily entertained us, and/or demonstrated great athletic abilities, have been adorned by their fans, their achievements recorded, and their existence on Earth preserved with various methods. Although his name may not be routine in every household, a celebration of Pheidippides' run from Athens to Sparta is conducted every time we run a marathon. During the Beijing Olympics, the world paused to marvel at the scale, the architectures, the athletes and their accomplishments. Every year millions focus on The Tour de France and its drama as well as demonstration of human perseverance.

    Random Thoughts While Riding Long

By Cherie Gruenfeld IM Age Group World Champion and BodyHealth Team Member

    • We triathletes should offer personal thanks to Greg LeMond for our aerobars.
    • Leaving at 6:00 a.m. for a 100-mile ride in August isn't early enough.
    • Swimming is more fun when the pool is 80 degrees than when it's 77 degrees.
    • Some of the new running shoes are a fashion statement.

Athletes who use MAP really do improve

    Here are some reports:

Frustrated with my inability to obtain adequate amount of protein throughout my work day to support my rigorous training schedule I began searching for a protein supplement. I found MAP to fit perfectly into my hectic day. Since I have been using MAP I truly believe that I can recover faster from hard training sessions and races. I have relied on MAP year around for the last three years to help keep me healthy and competitive. Dr. Melisa Christian - 2008 Women's U.S. Olympic Team Trials Qualifier

"I raced an Miami Olympic Distance triathlon after doing 125 mile bike two days before and an 18 mile run the day before. I used MAP after both of these training days and I was still able to compete and win my AG in the race. I really love your guy's product and really think that this allows me to back up my hard workouts. Thanks for a great product." Thanks - Shawn Burke

All of my regular patients, Olympic athletes, and coaches who have taken MAP tell me they notice increased energy and strength as well as a decrease in their recovery time. I believe that anyone who takes his or her health and fitness seriously needs to be using MAP! - Dr. David Pascal, World-Class Athlete Trainer
