Master Amino Acid Pattern (MAP) Winner's Circle Gail Cookson
Winner at Morris Center YMCA Triathlon (age group 50-54)
I have been a MAP triathlete since the winter when my husband and I read about your product in Triathlete magazine. Of course, one never can really isolate all the factors that go into a particular race or season's results, but I won my age group in W50-54 at the Morris Center YMCA Tri Event on July 18, 2004!
That event took place on a cold and partially rainy day on a hilly bike course in northwestern New Jersey. I beat the second place finisher in my age group by over 10 minutes — and she and I were the two oldest female competitors that day.
Not many women of my age participate in competitive cycling or triathlon events, and we are hardly ever the stuff that advertising companies believe is fodder for good print.
And some might say that "just showing up" gets one on the podium, but that would be doing a great disservice to the women who are out there "just doing it" without a second thought as to age or what others may think.
I have been competing in cycling or multi-sport for over 12 years, and I plan on continuing for some time to come. Hey, if I CAN outlast the competition, good for me!
After the age-group win in mid-July, my training ramped up as I prepared for my first Ironman at Wisconsin, September 12. MAP was an important part of my training regimen throughout the summer build period. While I might not have won my age group or even placed top ten at IM Wisconsin, I finished when hundreds of other athletes did not and I am proud of my efforts and accomplishments.
I guess you could say I am an ordinary person trying to do extraordinary athlete events without the benefit of genetic gifts — just hard work and dedication . . . and MAP has helped!
