Dear Dave,

From Jeff in Tucson:
If I have only 15 hours a week to train for an IM race and I have about 8 months to get ready and I have done an IM a year for the last 5 years, how much time should I devote to each swim, bike, run, and weights?

From Dave Scott:
Here is how I would break it down. Two times per week for strength and stretching and injury prevention. Approximately 35 minutes per session. Average = 1 hour, 10 minutes per week. Three times per week per discipline. Swim – three times at 50-55 minutes per session. Average 2 hours, 40 minutes per week. Bike – three times at 1 hour 40 minutes per session: 1 at 1 hour, 1 at 2.5 hours, 1 at 4.5 hours. Average = 8 hours per week. Run – three times per week at 50 minutes to 2 hours: 1 at 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours, 1 at 30 minutes, and 1 at 75 minutes. Total = approximately 15 hours.
