From Dean M.:
Mr. Scott, I have a question regarding your nutrition video. If I am doing a split workout for an up com ing 70.3 do I pre, during and post consume calories, or do I use a com bined number for both workouts? The program I am doing may have an hour swim in the am followed by a 45 minute run in the p.m. By the time I have caught up from the morning workout, it is time to eat extra for the afternoon workout.
From Dave Scott:
Your calories need to be distributed throughout both sessions. The pre-fueling is key for your one hour and 45 minute double sessions.
Obviously, taking in calories immediately before exercise depends upon your gut sensitivity and the workload of the session. If you can ingest your calories 60 – 90 minutes before the session and take in 4 – 12 ounces of fluid replacement drink right before the workout – you should be good to go!
After the second session, make sure you begin fueling within 15 – 45 minutes post workout.
Good luck,
Dave Scott
