| MAP Winner's Circle - Julia Peck |
 |
MORE GOOD NEWS!!! I recently received an
invitation to participate in the Xterra USA
Championship at Lake Tahoe. I was told I was the
Regional Winner for my age group in the Xterra Point
Series. My region is the Mid Atlantic, which includes
Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey,
Washington D.C, Maryland, and Delaware. I am very,
very happy about this.
At 47 there aren't that many opportunities to
participate in national status events. Nice things
have been happening since MAP became a part
of my training regimen.

| Have you ever heard of phosphatidylserine? |
 |
Probably not. Phosphatidylserine is a kind of
phospholipid that is especially rich in brain tissues.
We know with aging that the PS content of cells
throughout the body declines. This may explain why
supplementation with PS has been shown to improve
neural function, cell energy, memory, concentration
and learning. It seems that the molecule helps to
maintain good flexibility of cell membranes. PS may
also reduce the risk of dementia in the elderly.

| Have you looked into PowerCranks? |
 |
Have you looked into PowerCranks? For the
past two years I have been seeing the PowerCranks
booth often set up next to ours at Ironman events. I
would get on and try them and within minutes
realized I was genetically deficient in being able to do
it for longer than a few minutes. Then one of our
sponsored athletes told me that his success with
them was terrific and I should try them. He was very
happy with the impact they had been having on his
performances and recommended that I utilize them
as a training aid myself.

Three “families" of Injuries |
|
|
|
In the 20 years I have been a triathlete I have
experienced injuries in three “families”: by Luis
Alvarez.
1. Too much too soon. For the beginner
running for an hour may be too much and if
continued injuries will occur. The same is true after a
layoff period, if one does too much too soon injuries
can occur. Its best and what I do is begin running 25
minutes three times a week and the three other days
I cycle from 45 min to an hour the first week, by the
second week I run the same 25 minutes but cycle
every day. I keep my heart rate in a comfortable
aerobic range (180 minus my age minus 20). In about
three to four weeks I am back at the level that I left
before so now I train at a HR of 180 minus my age
plus 10.
