  • Heart Rate Training

by Luis Alvarez Winner at Ironman Honolulu - World Record Holder - Only man to complete every Ironman race venue in the world

If anyone asks me how to get started in exercise or how to train for an Ironman I ask back “Do you have a heart rate monitor?”

All of us that participate in triathlons are addicted to endorphins. In our case more than using the Heart Rate Monitor (HRM) to go to a high heart rate, we have to use it to control it and to get to our personal appropriate rate.

Although the regular brick workout on Sundays and track workouts on Mondays were making me faster, I was feeling sore and depleted for days afterward. Then, last summer, one of the other triathlon club members suggested I try MAP.

As the weeks went by, I felt stronger and stronger! Finally, all of my hard work paid off on September 11, 2004 when I WON my age group at the Triathlon at Pacific Grove! Our local newspaper even wrote about my story that week.

    Taking Prescription Medication is Dangerous

If you are put on prescription drug, make sure your prescription is the one you are supposed to be getting!

At least 1.5 million, that’s 1,500,000! people a year are injured or die from medication errors incurring at least $3.5 billion a year in extra hospital costs, according to a report issued in July by the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences

    Is your Immune Window Open?

It is well known that long distance training and racing makes one prone to more frequent infections. This is due to the fact that the stresses of prolonged exercise “opens the window” for viruses to get into the body. This “window opens” because there is not enough usable protein coming into the body to keep up with the body’s protein demands during training, for recovery, AND keeping the immune system healthy. So, exposure to common viruses, which would normally have been repelled with a healthy immune system, can now enter the body through the open window. Or, viruses that are already in your body can no longer be fought off and infection occurs. This is the experience many have had, UNLESS they use MAP.

    Are Toxins Slowing You Down?

Are you aware that the fall of the Roman Empire has been linked to brain damage to the inhabitants of Rome from water that was delivered in lead pipes?

We know that today our bodies have accumulated many times the amounts of toxics metals as compared to then. This is because our environment is filled with them from industrial pollution, including lead, cadmium, nickel, aluminum and mercury. Each of these metals tends to accumulate in our tissues over our time to higher and higher levels and cause us injury.
