Winner at DESARU Long Distance Triathlon (Mens 50 and above)
When I moved to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in March of 2008 for a one year stint, I wisely packed my last bottle of MAP BioBuilde amino acids, with the intent of saving them for races, since I wouldn't have access to replenish my supply there.
I had the opportunity to put them to the test during the DESARU Long Distance Triathlon on August 16, 2008
(2k/90k/21k): slightly altering the age-old advice of "take 2 at night and call me in the morning", I proceeded to take 2 tablets with breakfast, followed by 6 more shortly before race start (which was not until 10:00 AM!), took another
6 tablets during the later stages of the bike leg - and then called my wife with the good results!
1 have never tried to consume the MAP amino acids during a race, but not only did the intake of 6 tablets not induce
any abdominal discomfort, but I felt strong on the last lap of the bike course and had plenty left for the run. I
managed to overtake the leading age-group competitor who won the previous race in Port Dickson (1.5k/40k/10k)
ahead of me (I didn't use MAP amino acids that time), with 4k to go on the run and never looked back, putting nearly 2 minutes on him by the time I crossed the finish line. This age-group win in a major event was made even more
special by how strong I felt during the later stages of this long, hot race, even negative-splitting the run. I really feel
that MAP made the difference, so I will stick to that tried-and-proven formula during the upcoming races here - this
'winning feeling' is definitely addictive!
